Who we are

PYP 3 News

PYP students had a chance to use a number of different ways to apply techniques and creativity when making a collage. First of all, they were encouraged to tear coloured paper, magazine illustrations and tracing paper. Then they were asked to cut out a rectangle after selecting the colour of their choice. All of the pieces were then assembled onto a white piece of A4 paper so that students could arrange them and paste them down using a glue stick. At this stage, emphasis was placed on observing larger pieces of paper and smaller ones. Some students created patterns while others opted to make some sort of figure or landscape.

Throughout the term, we will be focusing on the learner’s profile attitudes. During this Unit of Inquiry we are talking about different ways of being caring and risk-takers. Listed below are some of the ways PYP 3 children believe they have to act to show caring attitudes towards their friends.

“We help our friends”
“We share toys”
“We don’t hurt others’ feelings”
“We are loving”
“We are trusting”
“We are friendly”

Our See, Think and Wonder Routine goes on with many different worldwide artefacts on the interest table!

Learning about our family culture and background!

This week PYP 3 will be investigating into their own family culture and background!

They will be learning about and creating their family tree!

Children will need to bring individual photos of their immediate family to form their family tree.

PYP 3 will also be investigating into their own family culture and other cultures.

We will have an interest table with artifacts and pictures of different cultures from around the world!

Children are encouraged to bring any objects, artifacts, or pictures related to their family history and culture to add to our interest table and explain to the class.

THANK YOU!

PYP3 - Who we are

PYP3
Who we are

Central Idea:
Understanding similarities and differences between people helps us connect to others.

This week we have started our investigations by looking for similarities and differences between people around the world and us, the St Francis community.
We started our discussions about what we see, what we think and what we wonder...

As part of understanding differences and similarities between people we also investigated the Olympic Games Rio 2016 which gathers people from all over the world.

On Wednesday 10th August, we joined the St Francis community to cheer for one former
pupil of our school: Ana Beatriz Bulcão.
She was competing in fencing and made us very proud with her perseverance.
She proved to be a risk-taker and balanced like many of us.

Before watching her match live on TV, our school's fencing teacher gave a brief explanation of how this game works and the points are scored.

We were able to watch her game and understand when both players were scoring points.

We also had our first assembly this week!

Amongst other things we made
our playtime agreements as a community.

Stay tuned for more news!

Welcome to PYP 3!

Welcome back to school!
Welcome to PYP 3 blog! Throughout our Units of Inquiry, we will post diverse learning experiences about what is going on in the classrooms. Stay tuned for future pictures of the children in action!

In our first Unit of Inquiry, “Who We Are”, children will investigate their personal characteristics and the similarities and differences between people, how these characteristics are related to culture, experiences and family history and the way characteristics in common help us connect to others.
