We are heading towards the end of Unit 2 and have learned so much!

During half term PYP3 children observed
the different ways transport is organised
and brought a lot of information to share in class.

PYP 3 Sigma’s Assembly

PYP 3 Sigma’s Assembly

Children worked hard to prepare and present  their
very first assembly in PYP 3.

Throughout the last Unit of Inquiry, they talked about their likes, dislikes and finally they chose their favourite story to role play in the assembly.
“Walking through the jungle”, by Julie Lacome.

They identified many different repeated rhymes and patterns.

They also chose some of their favourite nursery rhymes!

“Ms. Polly had a dolly” and “Incy Wincy spider”…

“Mary had a little lamb” and “Shoo fly”…

At last they talked about:

-        Personal characteristics.
-        Family history.
-        The way we connect to each other.

Coming soon...

Unit 2 has been running

full force in PYP 3!

This Unit is all about "How we organise ourselves" and the different systems that help us in organisation.

We have been looking at how CALENDARS, and  SCHEDULES help us in our organisation.
How TIME is organised into years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes.

We looked into the major FOOD GROUPS and learned how they are organised into diary, grains, protein, fruits and vegetables

We are learning the importance of having a balanced diet and incorporating a variety of these different food groups into our meals.

Here is a balanced meal checklist we have been using in the class and you are welcome to print and continue using it at home too!

Balanced meals checklist

We also investigated how our classrooms are organised, what systems do we use and the different ways things can be sorted and classified.

Children were also encouraged to investigate an area of their house and find out how it is organised.

Children will need to:
  • Choose an area at home to observe how things are organised - this can be your home office, kitchen pantry, their toy room, a cupboard, wardrobe or even a drawer in their room which shows children how things are organised at home.
  • Record what they find in a way of their choosing: a drawing, a photograph, or words and sentences to go with this.
  • Share their findings in class throughout the next week during our different circle time.

PYP 3 Field Trip to the theater

PYP 3 Field Trip to the Theater

This week we went to the theater to see a play together,
all the three PYP3s !

Pied Piper of Hamelin is a play group formed by actors and musicians Marcelo and Paula Zurawski, winners of the APCA Award 2004 best authors of children's theater for Rapunzel. The story, based on a fact probably occurred in 1284, takes place in Hamelin, Germany. A terrible invasion of rats ravaged the town, leaving the  people desperate. When all attempts to stop the plague seem frustrated, there is a strange and mysterious character - a Pied Piper - that promises to rid Hamelin of rats by paying a certain sum of money. He fulfills his promise, but when he returns to receive your payment, is mocked and deceived by the authorities. The Pied Piper then decides revenge of Hamelin, taking the city its most precious asset. The Furunfunfum promises a surprise ending to the Pied Piper of Hamelin. It is worth checking!

Cultural Picnic

Last week we completed our learning cycle on our Unit of Inquiry “WHO WE ARE” and for the closure we had a wonderful cultural picnic.

First, children had the opportunity to share their nationalities, celebrations and family trees. Then, they listened to the story “The Sandwich Swap” by Rania Abdullah and finally they had the chance to experience and try diverse dishes from a wide range of countries around the world.

At last, they all had a reflection moment to think about the picnic and the different food they tried.

We are excited to start our new Unit of Inquiry!

Cultural Picnic this week!

Cultural Picnic this week!

This has been a fun and exciting Unit and we have learned a lot about each other’s personal differences, preferences
and family cultures.

To close off our current Unit of Inquiry and celebrate our differences we will be having a cultural picnic next week!

For this we would like to request if each child

could bring one snack or food (a small portion with bite-

sized pieces) that is related to their own culture or even

from a different culture.

  • Pinheiros: Thursday 15th of September
  • Jardim Europa: Friday 16th of September

Stay tuned for some pictures of the picnic next week!

Who we are - continuous work

PYP3

Who we are

Central Idea:
Understanding similarities and differences between people helps us connect to others.

This week we continued our investigations on who we are.
Children brought pictures, objects and some of them even brought especial dishes their families eat on everyday basis or on especial occasions.

Arepa is a type of food made of ground maize dough or cooked flour prominent in the cuisine of Colombia and Venezuela.

Next week we are planning to have a picnic in which all the children can bring
dishes from their culture and share them with their classmates in school.

Note about Cultural Picnic (sent home via diary)

Heidi and Peter Project

This week we took part in a very interesting project which was started by
Obersee Bilingual School from Switzerland.
Heidi and Peter are visiting different schools in the world. Obersee has sent us a book with Heidi story and Heidi and Peter´s puppets to spend a few days at St. Francis College and all
PYP 3 groups truly appreciated the experience.

These puppets and the book have been travelling for a while...
They have been to:
International School of Indiana - Indianopolis - USA
Riverstone International School - Boise - USA
Kit Carson Elementary School - Las Vegas - USA
Juarez Elementary School - California -USA
St. Francis College - São Paulo - Brasil

Busy, busy...

It was also a busy week for parents with the Goal Setting Meetings which are
extremely important to set the overall goals to be followed both at school and at home.
They were all very successful. Please speak to us should you want extra tips on
how to approach your child at home.

Special Thanks
We would like to thank all the parents who were able to contribute to our investigations these last weeks and will still do it this week with our special picnic!

Stay tuned for for news!
