PYP 3

PYP 3

During the past weeks we’ve been discussing and reflecting on our responsibility towards the environment and the way our actions may affect it.

We read the story “Michael Recycle”, written by Ellie Bethel and illustrated by Alexandra Colombo. In the story, Michael gives us many hints on how to improve our attitudes to help the environment.

After listening to the story, children discussed about their written pieces of work and shared with their friends.

This year PYP 3 participated

in the 2017 Holiday Reading Challenge!

Check out the participants receiving their stickers and certificates during our last assembly! (some children were absent that day, therefore are not on the picture)

PYP 3 has also been busy investigating into natural and man made resources and the consequences that arise when we don't take care of these resources.

In PE, children are bringing recyclable materials from home and creating toys and games as a means to address the concept of reducing, reusing and recycling.

Unit 4 - Sharing the planet

Central Idea:
The environment is affected
by the way people use resources.

Lines of Inquiry:
Different kinds of resources.
Reducing, reusing and recycling.
Our responsibility for the well-being of the environment.

This first week we have been investigating environmental problems observes in the world around us, such as littering and pollution.

Also, we have read the book The Lorax by Dr Seuss and discussed its main ideas. Children have observed and talked about issues, like:

>> The way in which we treat nature affects the way the environment will look like in the future.

>> The importance of taking care of nature.

>> The importance of having trees and vegetation around us.

>> Possible outcomes when we do not think of our actions towards nature.

Stay tuned for more discoveries
in future blog posts!
